Learnt new knuckle wire techniques from sensei Hayashi!
Had our team end of rotation dinner at BSC! Great dinner with Dato Sri Dr Azhari Rosman!!
On 4 December 2024, our lab was treated to an insightful and hands-on workshop led by the renowned Dr Tuomas from Finland. The focus? Advancing expertise in Drug-Coated Balloon (DCB) technology—a cutting-edge solution revolutionizing vascular interventions.
Dr. Tuomas, a leading expert in interventional cardiology, shared his extensive experience and clinical insights with an eager audience of specialists. The workshop offered a deep dive into the practical applications of DCB, emphasizing its role in treating complex cases, reducing restenosis rates, and improving long-term patient outcomes.
As the field of interventional cardiology continues to evolve, workshops like this are essential for staying at the forefront of innovation. Thank you, Dr. Tuomas, for sharing your expertise and inspiring practitioners worldwide.
This past Saturday, the Abbott Optical Coherence Tomography OCT Workshop took place, offering a unique and enriching learning experience for cardiovascular professionals.
Chaired by Dato’ Sri Dr. Azhari Rosman and presented by Dr. David Yong and Dr. Lim Wei Juan, the OCT workshop provided an in-depth look into the application of OCT in coronary artery disease and interventional cardiology.
A Hands-On Learning Experience
The workshop combined expert presentations with practical, hands-on sessions, enabling participants to directly interact with Abbott’s cutting-edge coronary OCT technology. Through detailed demonstrations, attendees gained valuable insights into OCT’s capabilities for assessing coronary artery lesions, stent deployment, and the overall vascular condition.
We have participants from HSAJB Dr Sim & Dr Lau as well as from HUKM Dr Beh BC!
Not only teaching about basic OCT morphology & MLA MAX algorithm, we also have hands on session!
Key Highlights of the Workshop:
Case Sharing by Experts: Dr. David Yong and Dr. Lim Wei Juan shared compelling real-life case studies, demonstrating how OCT is transforming coronary diagnostics and interventional procedures. Attendees learned how to effectively utilize OCT for detailed imaging of coronary arteries, providing a higher level of precision in clinical decision-making.
Hands-On Practice: Participants had the opportunity to work with the latest OCT equipment, refining their skills in performing and interpreting high-resolution coronary imaging. This hands-on experience was invaluable in building confidence with OCT’s application in daily practice.
Expert Insights: Dato’ Sri Dr. Azhari Rosman, as chair, guided the discussions and provided expert commentary on the role of OCT in modern cardiology. His insights helped participants better understand how this technology is shaping the future of coronary diagnostics and interventions.
It’s also important for EAPCI exam!
Abbott have their own OCT laptop, the same interface as the OCT machine!
What Attendees Gained:
By the end of the workshop, attendees left with enhanced knowledge of coronary OCT, a deeper understanding of its clinical applications, and practical skills they can immediately apply in their practices. The case sharing and real-world examples helped solidify the significance of OCT in improving patient outcomes in coronary artery disease.
The workshop was a great success, with participants eager to implement their new skills and knowledge to optimize patient care. We look forward to more educational events like this in the future.
Had a golden opportunity to join a small group bifurcation stenting discussion organized by Boston Scientific at Le Meridien KL!
Chaired by our famous DK Crush Guru Datuk Dr Kumara with Dr Thunnop from Thailand with esteemed faculties Dr Jayakhantan from CVSKL, Dr Hafidz from IJN & Dr Anwar from Kuatan!
Great case sharing session by Cardiologist around Malaysia, Dr Mugilan from IJN, Dr Huzairi from UiTM, Dr Lee from PPUM, Dr Selva Kumar from Kuantan, Dr Kim Heng Shee from HSAJB & Dr Kunaraj from Penang!
Love the discussion session and how we interact.
Also able to get a cert haha
Also managed to have a small reunion dinner with ex-HSAJB Dr Neerusha, Dr Kenneth Khoo & Dr Ng Yong Siang at Fook Restaurant.
It was a great meetup with fruitful Saturday morning!
Thank you Orbus Neich & Dato Sri Dr Azhari Rosman from IJN for organizing this CTO workshop with Sensei Dr Michiya Kageyama from Nasu Red Cross Hospital, Japan!
It was great learning from sensei regarding CTO techniques, with tips & tricks! Our in-house CTO enthusiast Dr Mugilan Sundarajoo also came to join us!
Did a CTO case via retrograde approach using Reverse CART technique
CTO stands for chronic total occlusion, which is a complete or near-complete blockage in a coronary artery that lasts three months or longer. Coronary arteries are the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart.
Reverse controlled antegrade and retrograde tracking (CART) is a technique used to treat chronic total occlusions (CTOs) in the coronary arteries:
How it works This technique involves retrograde dissection to create a subintimal space, then navigating a retrograde microcatheter over the dissection. Next, an antegrade dissection is performed, and an antegrade balloon is inflated in the subintimal space. Finally, the subintimal space is connected, and a retrograde wire is used to navigate into the proximal true lumen.
Glad to be given the opportunity to share on types of bifurcation stenting, mainly focusing on provisional stenting, DK crush & Culotte stenting today at IJN, organized by Medtronic.
Thanks to Datuk Dr Shaiful, Datuk Dr Kumara, Dato Sri Dr Azhari Rosman & Dato Dr Amin!
Good to play on the model and test out some issues/rewiring issues as well. I still remember my 1st DK Crush was done with Dr Lee Tjen Jhung!
Managed to let the fellows to do a few techniques with the models
Forxiga (dapagliflozin) has emerged as a game-changer in managing chronic kidney disease (CKD). Traditionally used as a treatment for Type 2 diabetes, Forxiga is now recognized for its kidney-protective benefits, offering hope to millions of CKD patients worldwide. Glad to be able to share with group of doctors from LifeCare Diagnostic, led by Dr Ong!
How Forxiga Works in CKD Forxiga belongs to a class of medications known as SGLT2 inhibitors, which work by helping the kidneys remove excess glucose through urine. Beyond its glucose-lowering effects, Forxiga has been shown to reduce the progression of kidney disease by improving kidney function, lowering protein in the urine, and reducing the risk of kidney failure.
Forxiga’s Clinical Benefits in CKD Recent studies have demonstrated Forxiga’s ability to significantly delay CKD progression. This means fewer patients advancing to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and reduced dependence on dialysis or kidney transplants. It has also been shown to lower cardiovascular risks, which is a common complication for CKD patients.
Who Can Benefit from Forxiga? Forxiga is not just for diabetic patients. Recent guidelines recommend its use in CKD patients with or without diabetes, making it an essential treatment option for a broader patient population.
Conclusion Forxiga offers a promising solution for those suffering from chronic kidney disease. With its ability to slow disease progression and improve overall kidney health, Forxiga is a vital part of modern CKD treatment strategies.
