On 14 July 2026, Dr Lim Wei Juan, Consultant Cardiologist at KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital, was honoured to conduct a Heart Health Awareness Talk for the employees of Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE).

The educational session was part of MMHE’s ongoing commitment to promoting employee wellness and preventive healthcare. The interactive talk focused on increasing awareness of cardiovascular disease, empowering participants with practical knowledge to reduce their risk of heart disease.

MMHE

Why Heart Health Matters

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide and in Malaysia. Many heart attacks and strokes can be prevented through early detection, lifestyle modification, and appropriate medical treatment.

During the session, Dr Lim highlighted the importance of recognising cardiovascular risk factors before symptoms develop.

Key Topics Covered

The talk included discussions on:

  • Understanding coronary artery disease and heart attacks
  • Common warning signs of heart attack and stroke
  • High blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol management
  • The dangers of smoking and vaping
  • Maintaining a healthy weight through diet and regular exercise
  • Stress management and quality sleep for heart health
  • When to undergo heart screening
  • Modern treatments available for blocked heart arteries

Employees also had the opportunity to ask questions regarding heart symptoms, blood pressure, cholesterol medications, exercise recommendations, and preventive health screening.

Importance of Early Screening

Dr Lim emphasised that many cardiovascular conditions remain silent until a major event occurs. Individuals with risk factors such as:

  • Family history of heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Smoking
  • Obesity

should undergo regular medical assessment to detect problems early and reduce future cardiovascular events.

A Successful Corporate Wellness Initiative

The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, where employees actively participated and shared their concerns regarding heart health.

Dr Lim expressed his appreciation to MMHE for prioritising employee wellbeing through health education initiatives.

“Prevention is always better than treatment. Small lifestyle changes today can make a significant difference in reducing the risk of heart disease in the future.”

Corporate health talks play an important role in creating healthier workplaces by encouraging preventive healthcare and raising awareness of common medical conditions.
